AWS entered into a strategic agreement with ParAccel, a company renowned for its high-performance columnar database technology. This deal provided AWS with the core intellectual property to build its cloud data warehouse service.

Significance

This was the foundational step for Redshift. Instead of building a complex database from scratch, AWS leveraged ParAccel's proven, specialized analytical engine, significantly accelerating development and ensuring a robust, performant core from day one.
