ParAccel Founded

ParAccel, a company focused on developing a high-performance analytic database, was founded. Their innovative columnar, massively parallel processing (MPP) architecture became the intellectual foundation for what would later become Amazon Redshift.

Significance

This event established the core technology that AWS would later license and adapt, providing a powerful, performant starting point for their cloud data warehousing aspirations, avoiding a complete greenfield development.
