ParAccel, a company specializing in high-performance analytic database technology, was founded. Its columnar, MPP architecture would later form the basis for Amazon Redshift.

Significance

This laid the technological groundwork, providing AWS with a mature, battle-tested core engine to build their cloud data warehouse service upon, significantly accelerating development.
