Project 'Cool' Inception

Anders Hejlsberg began leading the development of a new language within Microsoft, initially codenamed 'Cool' (C-like Object Oriented Language), which would eventually become C#.

Significance

This marked the true beginning of C#, as Hejlsberg started to assemble his team and lay down the foundational design principles for what would become Microsoft's answer to Java.
