QED Editor Developed
Ken Thompson, initially at UC Berkeley, refined the QED (Quick Editor) text editor, which famously included powerful regular expression search capabilities. This editor served as the direct precursor and donor of `grep`'s core logic.
Significance
QED demonstrated the power of regular expressions for text manipulation and provided the foundational pattern-matching engine that Thompson later extracted to create `grep`.
