Release of CORBA 1.0

The Object Management Group (OMG) released the first version of the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), an early standard for distributed object computing.

Significance

CORBA pioneered many concepts of distributed object communication and service abstraction, laying intellectual groundwork for application servers, demonstrating the need for interoperable components before Java's rise.
