Release of Macintosh II
Apple introduced the Macintosh II, the first open-architecture Mac with NuBus expansion slots, making it possible for third-party and Apple-designed graphics cards to upgrade its display capabilities beyond built-in video.
Significance
This event laid the foundation for the 8•24 Display Card. Without the NuBus architecture, a modular, high-performance graphics upgrade like the 8•24 would not have been possible, effectively limiting the Mac to more basic graphics.
