Release of Nagios Core

Ethan Galstad released the first public version of NetSaint (later Nagios), an open-source monitoring tool that became a de facto standard for infrastructure alerting.

Significance

Nagios provided critical low-level monitoring and alerting capabilities, laying the groundwork for more sophisticated incident management systems to build upon. It allowed early detection of problems but didn't manage the incident lifecycle.
