Sketchpad Demonstration

Ivan Sutherland's doctoral thesis project, Sketchpad, was a pioneering interactive computer graphics program. It allowed users to draw on a CRT screen with a light pen, directly manipulating objects.

Significance

Sketchpad introduced fundamental concepts of interactive computing, including the idea of 'event handling' where the system reacted dynamically to user input (light pen events), laying the groundwork for GUI event loops.
