Solr's Internal Inception at CNET

Yonik Seeley begins developing Solr internally at CNET Networks to solve their product search challenges. It was initially a proprietary solution, a 'Search ON Lucene and Resin' server built to provide an HTTP interface to Lucene.

Significance

This marks the birth of Solr, born out of a real-world, high-volume search problem. It demonstrated Solr's immediate utility and capability within a demanding production environment.
