James Strachan, Hiram Chirino, and David Martin at LogicBlaze begin developing an open-source JMS broker, initially named 'Spirit,' to address the need for a flexible messaging solution.

Significance

This marked the conceptual and initial coding phase, laying the foundation for what would become Apache ActiveMQ.
