Sybase SQL Server 1.0 Release

Sybase, founded by former Ingres developers, released its innovative relational database management system, Sybase SQL Server, initially for UNIX systems. It was designed with a focus on online transaction processing (OLTP).

Significance

This marked the initial creation of the core technology that Microsoft would license and eventually evolve into its own SQL Server product, establishing an early standard for client-server RDBMS.
