The Object People released TopLink, one of the earliest comprehensive commercial ORM solutions, initially for Smalltalk and later for Java.

Significance

TopLink demonstrated the viability of ORM as a commercial product and proved that the impedance mismatch could be addressed programmatically, paving the way for later open-source efforts.
