Torch Development Begins

Ronan Collobert, Clément Farabet, and Koray Kavukcuoglu initiated development of Torch, a scientific computing framework written in C and Lua, with an early focus on machine learning.

Significance

One of the earliest pioneers, it laid groundwork for flexible array computation and eventually served as a direct conceptual ancestor to PyTorch, highlighting the potential of GPU acceleration.
