Williams-Kilburn Tube Demonstration (Manchester Baby)

The 'Manchester Baby' (Small-Scale Experimental Machine), the first electronic stored-program computer, successfully ran its first program. Its unique memory system, the Williams-Kilburn tube, was a CRT that also served as the computer's primary visual output.

Significance

This was arguably the first true 'external display' for a computer, demonstrating the fundamental concept of using a CRT for direct, dynamic visual output from a computing machine, laying the groundwork for all future interactive displays.
