Kannan Muthukkaruppan, Karthik Ranganathan, and Mikhail Bautin, former Google and Facebook engineers, founded YugaByte Inc. with the vision of creating an open-source, distributed SQL database.

Significance

This marked the official beginning of the company and the project, bringing together the core team with direct experience in building massive-scale distributed databases like Google Spanner and Apache Cassandra.
