- Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP was created to address the significant challenges enterprises faced when migrating or extending their complex, performance-sensitive, and feature-rich NetApp ONTAP-based workloads to the AWS cloud. Prior to this, organizations either had to refactor applications to use cloud-native storage services, re-architect their storage strategy, or incur substantial operational overhead by running NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP on EC2 instances, which still required manual management of the ONTAP environment. It aimed to provide a fully managed service that offers the full capabilities of ONTAP directly within AWS, enabling true lift-and-shift of ONTAP workloads and bridging hybrid cloud storage gaps.
