- Problem solved
- AWS KMS was created to solve the complex, expensive, and difficult-to-scale challenges of managing cryptographic keys for data encryption, especially in a cloud environment. Prior to KMS, organizations either relied on on-premises Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) which were costly and operationally intensive, or less secure software-based key management solutions, making it hard to ensure proper key lifecycle management, access control, auditing, and high availability for cloud-native applications.
